On November 11th a group of students from Stewarts School attended the inauguration of President Michael D Higgins at Dublin Castle. We had a great day-despite all the rain! We received a Garda escort into the Castle and were quickly directed to a downstairs room where we watched the proceedings on a big screen. There were about 300 students gathered in the room from schools around the country. Finally, we went outside and waited behind the barriers for the President and his wife to come around to the school children.
When President Higgins came outside he greeted one of the Stewarts School students-Chloe-who gave his wife Sabina some flowers. The President’s wife was very nice and chatty. Some of us shook hands with him and we all cheered and waved our flags. When the President had left to go to Áras an Uachtarán we back inside and had some sausages, chips and pizza before getting on the bus again. It was a great day and we got to see ourselves on TV later in the evening!
