Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post Primary Schools

The revised Child Protection Procedures for all schools and Circular 065/2011 were published on the Department of Education and Skills website on Friday 30th September 2011. This was the culmination of an extensive consultation process between the department, representatives of school management (including NABMSE), parents, teachers, school principals, HSE and Office of the Minister for Children.

These procedures are based on the recently published Children First (July 2011) and incorporate improvements to the previous guidelines to ensure a more consistent implementation of Children’s First 2011 in schools.

They come into immediate effect in all schools and replace previous guidelines published separately for primary schools(2001)  and post primary schools(2004).

Circular 065/2011 gives a summary of the main new elements but it is recommended that these are read in full by all school personnel. A copy of the circular should be given to all members of the Board of Management, school personnel and Parent’s Association.
