The Department of Education and Skills has recently published guidance in relation to exceptional closures. The DES consulted with the relevant education partners in relation to the options. Their position is that the schools should make all reasonable efforts to make up for lost time due to unforeseen closures. The severity and impact of the recent weather conditions varied countrywide and from school to school, therefore each school authority must assess the actual impact on teaching and learning in their school.
